The Council for the Regulation Engineering in Nigeria-COREN has stressed the need for proper training of the profession in line with global best practices.

President of the Council, Engineer Sadiq Abubakar made the call during the oath taking and induction ceremony of Engineering graduates of the Airforce Institute of Technology-AFIT, held in Kaduna.

Engineer Sadiq Abubakar noted that Nigeria currently has about one hundred and fourteen Universities offering over five hundred engineering programmes with the capacity to produce over ten thousand graduates annually.

Represented by the Council Registrar, Okorie Uche, the President disclosed that the Council had developed a comprehensive checklist in line with international benchmarks to guide engineering education and practice in Nigeria.

He pointed out that COREN had also established committees across Universities, Polytechnics and Technical Colleges to strengthen quality assurance and align engineering education with global standards.

Engineer Abubakar reiterated the council’s commitment to sustaining international benchmarks such as the Washington Accord and Sydney Accord in Nigeria’s engineering education system.

Earlier, Registrar of AFIT, Air Commodore Ibrahim Shehu described the ceremony as a critical transition from academic training to professional practice.

He encouraged the graduands to leverage the discipline and technical training acquired to contribute meaningfully to national development.

In a remark, AFIT Commandant, Air Vice Marshal Adeniran Ademuwagun charged the graduands to be of good conduct and worthy ambassadors of the institution.

A total of Two hundred engineering graduands of the Institution were inducted into the COREN.
