His eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto Muhammad Saad Abubakar, has declared Friday, the 20th of March as the first day of Shawwal 1447AH, marking the end of this year’s Ramadan Fasting.

In a statement signed by the chairman Advisory Committee on religious Affairs, Sultanate Council Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, says the Sultanate Council in conjunction with the National Moon sighting Committee didn’t received any information confirming the sighting of the new crescent of Shawwal today Wednesday, 18th of March 2026 equivalent to 29th of Ramadan 1447AH.

The statement further explains that Friday the 20th of March, equivalent to the 1st of Shawwal shall be the Eid-el-fitr Prayer and celebration day.

His eminence, the Sultan felicitates with Nigerian Muslims and wishes them Allah’s guidance and blessings.
