The Director General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Dr Mohammed Bulama, says FRCN will collaborate with United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to strengthen Nigeria’s global image and expand global opportunities.

Dr Bulama made this known when he received Nigeria’s Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, Dr Hajo Sani, during a courtesy visit to the Corporation’s Headquarters in Abuja.

He described the engagement as a significant step toward consolidating Nigeria’s achievements within UNESCO’s Communication and Information programmes.

Highlighting the importance of integrity and professionalism in projecting the country positively, the Director General noted that Radio Nigeria remains committed to portraying Nigeria in good light through credible and responsible broadcasting.

He explained that as UNESCO’s recognised focal agency for Communications in Nigeria, the corporation understands the responsibility placed upon it and will continue to justify that trust.

Dr Bulama commended Dr Sani for her service to the nation, noting her experience in key national assignments, including her tenure as a Minister of the Federal Republic.

He said her current role demonstrates the growing impact of Nigerian women in global leadership. “Dr Hajo Sani has paid her dues for this country. She is representing us very well, and it shows what Nigerian women can achieve,” he stated.

The Director General of FRCN, said the active participation of Nigeria at the recent UNESCO conference in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, where the Nigerian delegation secured the hosting rights for a major media institute after competing with several countries was commendable. He described the development as a collective national achievement made possible through sustained effort and strategic engagement.

Assuring the Permanent Delegate of institutional backing, Dr Bulama said Radio Nigeria would provide all necessary support to ensure the successful take-off of the institute. “After all, this is our sector media so it is our baby. We will do everything to protect and nurture it,” he added.

Earlier, the Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, Dr Hajo Sani, commended the leadership of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria for its strategic role in advancing Nigeria’s interests internationally.

She appreciated the Director General’s role at the last UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, where he represented the Minister of Information and National Orientation.

Dr Sani highlighted Nigeria’s active engagement within UNESCO, noting that the country currently serves on the Executive Board and plays a leadership role within the African Group of 54 member states.

She stated that Nigeria recently emerged as Chair of the Programme and External Relations Commission after a competitive process, describing it as a major diplomatic achievement.

She described as historic UNESCO’s final approval for the establishment of the International Media and Information Literacy Institute in Nigeria, the first of its kind globally, tracing its origin to the 2022 Global Media and Information Literacy Conference in Abuja which produced the Abuja Declaration.

“This institute is not just for Nigeria or Africa it is a global institute that will serve the international community,” she stated, emphasising continued cooperation with Radio Nigeria in projecting Nigeria positively and urging sustained collaboration in defending national interests, stressing that “we have no other country but Nigeria.”

Dr Sani said, she was impressed by Radio Nigeria’s inclusion of women in leadership positions.
