Matriculating students of the Federal University of Technology FUT Minna, Niger state, have been warned against engaging in examination mal practices, cultism, fraud, drug abuse, violence and other anti social behaviours in the university but to strive towards academic excellence,
Vice Chancellor of the University Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta gave the warning while declaring opened the thirty eight matriculation ceremony for the twenty twenty five, twenty six academic session, held at the Suleimanu Kumo Convocation Square main campus, Gidan Kwano, Minna.
Prof Faruk Adamu Kuta reminded them that the university awards degrees only to students who distinguish themselves in both learning and character, and that they must therefore adhere strictly to the rules and regulations of the Federal University of Technology Minna to merit such certificate.
He however described their decision to choose the FUT Minna, as a wise one, as in the 2006 Times Higher Education World University Rankings FUT Minna was ranked 7th best in Nigeria, highest ranked Specialized University in Nigeria, among the top 10 University in West Africa and 68th in Africa.
Prof Faruk Adamu Kuta expressed delight that among those taken the matriculation oath are the pioneer students of College of Medicine Sciences and Health Technology, which emphasized the University’s unwavering commitment to addressing societal challenges, especially the critical shortage of healthcare professionals and medical technologies in Nigeria.
On hostel accommodation, he said the management is aware of the challenges relating to hostel accommodation and off- campus housing, and that it is actively engaging relevant stakeholders to provide affordable and sustainable solution to these problems.
Prof Faruk Adamu Kuta added that of the twelve thousand six hundred and sixty one candidates who applied through direct entry and post UTME eleven thousand one hundred and seven participated in screening exercise from which eight thousand one hundred and thirty four were offered admission, seven thousand nine hundred and sixty eight accepted the offers and seven thousand five hundred and twenty nine successfully completed registration.
