The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has called for heightened awareness and strict adherence to fire safety regulations in both public and private buildings across the country.
Assistant Comptroller General Umar Faruk-Muhammad, delivering a sympathy message on behalf of the Comptroller General of the FFS, expressed solidarity with residents affected by recent fire incidents.
He noted that officers of the Service had taken prompt and necessary measures to contain the situation.
“The people at the fire scene have seen the measures taken by the Federal Fire Service. There is no need to explain further, as they commend our intervention,” he said, emphasizing the effectiveness of the FFS response.
Faruk-Muhammad stressed the importance of sustained public education on fire safety accessories, particularly fire extinguishers, in homes, markets, and commercial premises.
He urged property owners and traders to provide fire extinguishers in their establishments and acquire the knowledge to operate them effectively during emergencies.
“There should be proper awareness on fire safety accessories, how to operate them, and what steps to take immediately a fire incident starts,” he said.
He further stated that additional discussions on fire prevention and safety protocols would be held with the Chairman and leaders of the Singha Market Association, with more fire safety issues to be addressed following the meeting.
The FFS reiterated that proactive compliance with fire safety measures is critical in preventing loss of life and property in Nigeria.
