The Kaduna State House of Assembly on Tuesday deliberated on key legislative measures aimed at strengthening environmental protection, social welfare and skills development across the state.

During plenary, lawmakers considered a bill seeking to repeal and replace the Kaduna State Environmental Protection Authority Law No. 7 of 2010 with a new law for 2025.

The proposed legislation is designed to reinforce public health standards and promote sustainable environmental management for present and future generations.

The House also received a report from the Chairman, Joint Committee on Special Duties and Judiciary, Barrister Henry Magaji Danjuma, on a bill to amend the Kaduna State Social Security Law No. 8 of 2023.

Danjuma said the amendment would strengthen social protection mechanisms for vulnerable groups and improve pension administration for the benefit of citizens.

Similarly, the Chairman, Joint Committee on Business Innovation and Technology and Judiciary, Barrister Emmanuel Bako Kantiok, presented a report on a bill to establish the Kaduna State Institute of Vocational Training and Skills Development, 2025.

Lawmakers unanimously adopted the committee’s recommendations, and the vocational institute bill was subsequently passed into law. The legislation is expected to boost innovation, productivity and job creation in the state.

In line with its commitment to transparency and civic engagement, the Assembly hosted students and staff from Al-Yaqeen Academy, Malali, and Sally International School, Rigasa, who observed the proceedings.

Members of the Parliament of the Pharmaceutical Association of Nigeria Students, Kaduna State University, and the Students’ Representative Assembly of Kaduna Polytechnic were also in attendance, underscoring the Assembly’s commitment to participatory democracy.

The plenary was presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Dahiru Liman.
