The Zamfara State House of Assembly has dissolved all its standing committees and adopted a set of capacity-building measures aimed at strengthening legislative effectiveness, following the resumption of plenary after the end-of-year recess.

At the plenary, the House deliberated on and unanimously adopted nine action points designed to improve efficient and effective legislative service.

Key among the measures are the development of the Seventh Assembly Legislative Agenda, an oversight calendar, and an oversight manual for committees, as well as advocacy for the assent of the Public Expenditure Bill and the establishment of a Zamfara Budget Research Office (ZABRO) Directorate and a Civil Society Organisations liaison office.

Other action points included the presentation of assets registers by ministries, departments and agencies, amendment of the Assembly Service Commission Law 2024 to include an ICT department, in-house training for staff, and the strengthening of the capacity of members of the Public Accounts Committee. The measures are expected to enhance transparency, accountability and institutional performance.

The adoption followed the presentation of a motion by the House Majority Leader and member representing Tsafe East, Hon. Bello Muhammad Mazawajje Tsafe and urged members to support the action points.

Contributing to the debate, lawmakers from Bungudu East, Birnin Magaji and Anka constituencies, Yakuba Almajir Bela, Nura Dahiru Sabon Birni and Rilwanu Marafa Nagambo expressed full support for the motion.

Presiding over the session, Speaker Moriki announced that, following unanimous consent, the House resolved to adopt the nine action points and subsequently dissolved all standing committees, noting that the composition of new committees would be announced later.
