Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has been honoured with The Sun Newspaper’s Best Governor of the Year 2025 award in recognition of his administration’s commitment to good governance and service delivery.
The award was presented at a ceremony held in Lagos
A statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, said the Sun Awards celebrate excellence and recognise individuals who have made remarkable contributions to national and state development in their respective fields.
According to the statement, Governor Lawal was selected for the award based on his leadership style and the notable achievements recorded by his administration, particularly in the area of promoting transparency, accountability, and effective governance in Zamfara State.
“Since his inauguration as Executive Governor of Zamfara State on May 29, 2023, Governor Lawal has recorded significant milestones in service delivery. Despite inheriting a depleted treasury, he has remained steadfast in implementing the Rescue Agenda aimed at rebuilding and repositioning the state.”
The statement further highlighted security as a major priority of the Lawal administration, noting that the state government has spent billions of naira over the past two years to enhance security and restore peace across the state.
It also listed achievements in key sectors including health, education, infrastructure development, economic revitalisation, and workers’ welfare and empowerment as some of the factors that earned the governor the prestigious recognition.
“These achievements are among the reasons The Sun Newspapers honoured Governor Lawal. The award will serve as a morale booster, spurring the administration to do more in its drive to entrench good governance in Zamfara State,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, in December 2025, Zamfara State emerged as the best-performing state in the North-West zone under the Primary Healthcare Leadership Challenge, further underscoring the administration’s commitment to improving social services.
