A youth group in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State has argued that inclusive governance, not dominance by any section, is vital for sustaining democracy and long-term unity in the area.

The group, Kauru Youth Ambassadors (KYA), made the call while responding to comments by one Musa Waziri in a widely circulated video, stressing that Kauru comprises three distinct entities, namely Kauru Emirate, Kumana Chiefdom and Chawai Chiefdom.

According to the group, each of the three areas has educated, capable and patriotic citizens who are qualified to serve in leadership positions.

Speaking on behalf of the KYA, Comrade Junaidu Ishaq Maisalati said the group faulted the Waziri’s assertion that “power is taken, not given,” noting that political power, in practice, often favours those with numerical strength, resources and access to party structures.

He explained that zoning is not about sharing power as a favour, but about preventing permanent exclusion and guaranteeing fair representation in a diverse society like Kauru.

The group also described as contradictory the suggestion that zoning could produce incompetent leaders, despite acknowledging the presence of qualified individuals across all parts of Kauru.

It maintained that zoning does not lower leadership standards but instead encourages each area to present its best candidates when given the opportunity.

According to the group, orderly power rotation promotes leadership grooming, capacity building and stronger political institutions.

It therefore warned that persistent exclusion could lead to distrust, apathy and resentment, which undermine development and social cohesion.

The Kauru Youth Ambassadors KYA emphasised that fairness must be institutionalised to ensure unity, peace and sustainable development in Kauru.
