The Zamfara State Government has charged the newly appointed Commandant of the Community Protection Guards (CPG), AIG Muhammad Shehu Dalijan (rtd), to uphold professionalism, enforce discipline, and operate strictly within approved rules of engagement and operational protocols.
The directive was given by the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government (SSG), Malam Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, during the presentation of the appointment letter and policy guidelines for the ongoing overhaul of the CPG.

Malam Nakwada warned that the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal would not tolerate any deviation from established standards, stressing that adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) is fundamental to professionalism, accountability, and lawful conduct.
In a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the SSG, Sulaiman Ahmad Tudu, the government said the immediate and overriding priority for the new Commandant is the restoration of clear and effective command and control across all CPG formations.

According to the statement,
a unified command architecture is essential to eliminating operational drift, internal contradictions, and unauthorized actions.
“These measures are necessary to reposition the CPG to work more effectively with sister security agencies, regain public confidence, and deliver on its core mandate of protecting lives, property, and communities across Zamfara State.”

The SSG also expressed the government’s appreciation for the selfless service and dedication of the immediate past CPG Commandant, Brigadier General M. L. Bature (rtd), assuring him of continued government support.
As a gesture of appreciation, Malam Nakwada announced that Governor Dauda Lawal has approved the indefinite payment of monthly salary to the former Commandant to support his health management.
In his remarks, the new CPG Commandant, AIG Muhammad Dalijan (rtd), said he was familiar with the strengths and limitations of the Guards, having served as one of their pioneer trainers during his tenure as Commissioner of Police in Zamfara State.
He pledged to work towards repositioning the agency and expressed confidence that with the state-of-the-art equipment provided by the state government, including armoured carrier vehicles, there would be no excuse for underperformance.
The new Commandant further assured that he would strengthen inter-agency cooperation and synergy with conventional security agencies to intensify operations against terrorists’ enclaves across the state.
