Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has confirmed an explosion on the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline, following an incident reported at about 17:50 hours on 10 December 2025 near the Tebijor, Okpele, and Ikpopo communities in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Delta State.
In a statement, Andy Odeh, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd., said the company’s “priority at this time is the safety of nearby communities and the protection of the environment.”
According to NNPC, initial observations indicated a pressure drop consistent with a loss of containment on the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC) pipeline. The cause of the explosion remains unknown pending a full investigation.
The company added that emergency response procedures have been activated, with teams working alongside authorities and community leaders to ensure a coordinated approach to mitigate any impact.
NNPC reiterated its commitment to the highest safety and environmental standards and promised to provide further updates as more confirmed information becomes available.
