Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has confirmed an explosion on the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline, following an incident reported at about 17:50 hours on 10 December 2025 near the Tebijor, Okpele, and Ikpopo communities in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Delta State.

‎In a statement, Andy Odeh, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd., said the company’s “priority at this time is the safety of nearby communities and the protection of the environment.”

‎According to NNPC, initial observations indicated a pressure drop consistent with a loss of containment on the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC) pipeline. The cause of the explosion remains unknown pending a full investigation.

‎The company added that emergency response procedures have been activated, with teams working alongside authorities and community leaders to ensure a coordinated approach to mitigate any impact.

‎NNPC reiterated its commitment to the highest safety and environmental standards and promised to provide further updates as more confirmed information becomes available.
