Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has been honoured with the ZIK International Peace and Leadership Award in Accra, Ghana, in recognition of his contributions to public sector leadership and economic reforms in the State.
The 7th ZIK International Peace and Leadership Award ceremony was held at the British Council in Accra, alongside a lecture themed: “Leadership, Peace, and Regional Integration, Advancing Africa’s Development in a Changing Global Order.”
In a statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the Board of Trustees and Governing Council of the award said Governor Lawal was recognised for his significant achievements in public sector leadership and economic reforms in Zamfara State.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the ZIK Pan-African Award, His Highness Professor Echefuna R.G. Onyeabadi, said the award was instituted to recognise individuals who have made meaningful contributions to the service and development of their people.
Receiving the award, Governor Dauda Lawal dedicated the honour to the people of Zamfara State, saying that, it would further motivate his administration to intensify efforts towards rescuing and rebuilding the State.
The Governor said his administration had worked tirelessly over the past three years to position Zamfara to compete favourably with other states in Nigeria.
He highlighted achievements in urban renewal, infrastructure, security, civil service reform, education and healthcare as well as the construction of a modern airport in Zamfara, described it as a major milestone for the State.
He expressed appreciation to the organisers of the award, saying the recognition would encourage his administration to do more for the people of Zamfara.
Also honoured at the event was Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi A. Sule, who received an award for his contributions to public service and sustainable development.
