The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on Thursday says that 11,566 police officers have been recalled following President Bola Tinubu’s directive to withdraw officers from VIP protection.

IGP Kayode Egbetokun,at a high-level strategic conference on Thursday with senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force at the Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

He expressed commitment to strengthening internal security and protecting the lives and property of all Nigerians.

The IGP, commended the dedication, resilience, and sacrifices of senior officers in maintaining public safety across the country.

He thereafter issued comprehensive operational directives to all Commissioners of Police and tactical commanders, mandating them to reinforce intelligence-gathering mechanisms, deepen community policing frameworks through sustained citizen engagement, ensure lawful and professional protection of vulnerable communities.

IGP Egbetokun, and immediately scale up visible policing through expanded deployment of personnel nationwide ahead of the yuletide season to deter crime and reassure the public of their safety.

IGP Egbetokun also addressed the ongoing implementation of the Presidential Directive on the withdrawal and redeployment of  police personnel attached to VIPs.

He emphasized that this is essential to strengthening general policing operations, boosting manpower availability for frontline duties, and enhancing public safety.
