The Nigerian society of Broadcasters, SNB, has called on broadcasters to remain guided by long-established values of accuracy, fairness and responsibility to prevent the misuse of AI-generated materials.

President of the Society, Professor Umar A. Pate, made the call in his address, at the second annual conference of Society of Nigerian broadcasters hosted by Kano sate government.

He emphasized that artificial intelligence has become a powerful force reshaping content production, audience engagement and newsroom operations. He noted that while AI enhances efficiency, it also raises concerns about misinformation, job roles, and editorial integrity.

Professor Pate urged media organisations to strengthen internal policies to prevent misuse of AI-generated materials and to invest in continuous training for their staff. Declaring the conference open, Kano state governor Abba Kabir Yusuf represented by his Director-General Media Alhaji sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa said the state remains committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen ethical broadcasting and enhance public trust.

He described the theme as timely, noting that broadcasters must adapt to technological changes without compromising professional standards. The conference with the theme “Broadcasting ethics and professionalism in the age of Artificial intelligence ” brought together Delegates, including broadcast industry professionals, lecturers, media practitioners, and students from across Nigeria.
