House of Representatives has adopted a motion urging the Senate to fast-track concurrence on a bill passed by the House seeking to exempt the Nigeria Police Force from the Contributory Pension Scheme.
The Chairman house Committee on Police Affairs Makki Abubakar Yalleman, stated this while addressing newsmen shortly after a debate on motion by a member from Lagos State Mr Joe Okey Onuakalusi, during plenary session.
Makki Abubakar Yalleman, explained that the Press briefing was part of the house concern on the plight of the gallant officers who served the country diligently battling with a system that denied them the opportunity to enjoy their benefits after retirement.
The committee Chairman who sympathized with the Nigeria Police over the lingering instability assured that the house has done all it takes to pass the Bill but waiting for the Senate to concurrence for onward transmission to the President for final assent.
He said it is high time for the Police to have their own Pension board considering the fact that the Nigerian Army, the Department for State Service DSS and all other para-military services have been exempted from the scheme over the years.
