Jigawa State Government says it has approved over N3.5 billion as counterpart funding for the UBEC 2025 Matching Grant.
In a statement to newsmen, the Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Alhaji Sagir Musa Ahmed, explained that the sum is for the construction of classroom blocks, renovations, drilling of boreholes, and the procurement of classroom and teachers’ furniture.
He said, the council also approved over 289 million naira for the construction of administrative blocks and renovation in 9 local government areas of the state.
According to him, the amount is for the construction of administrative blocks at GDASS Imam Hassan Kafin hausa, construction of 8 blocks of 6-seater pit latrines at IEB selected schools, and renovation works at GGASS Danzomo and SAIS Hadejia.
He said, these underscore the administrations commitment to the development of education and human capital.
Sagir Musa Ahmed pointed out that, the schools to be covered include GDASS Iman Hassan at Kafin Hausa LGA
GDASS Danzomo, Sule Tankarakar LGA
SSIS Hadejia, Hadejia LGA and
GDASS Tarubu,Kirikassamma LGA.
Others also include GDASS Sani Ayu, Gumel LGA, GDASS Shuarin,Kiyawa LGA,
GDASS Kaugama, Kaugama LGA,GDASS Kwaimawa, Dutse LGA and GDASS Harbo Tsohuwa in Miga LGA.
The Commissioner further explained that, the council has approved the award of contract of over 1 billion naira for the renovation of existing structures of 30 PHCs revitalised last year.
On Social inclusion and Poverty Reduction, Sagir noted that, the council has approved the sum of 600 million naira for the update and expansion of the state social register for the Jigawa Operation coordination unit and the state CARES Coordinating unit (SCCU), being a set criteria for states to participate in World Bank state Social investment and Poverty reduction programme.
