The Ayangburen of Ikorodu Kingdom in Lagos State, Oba (Engr.) Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, has conferred the prestigious traditional title of “Baba Isale” of Ikorodu Kingdom on former Zamfara State Governor and Senator representing Zamfara West Senatorial District, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar (Marafan Sokoto).
This was disclosed in a statement by the Chairman, Publicity Committee of Senator A.A. Yari Political Organization, Ibrahim Mohammed.
Conferring the title at his palace in Ikorodu on Saturday, 15th November 2025, Oba Shotobi said the honour is reserved for individuals who devote their God-given resources to advancing human development.
He described Senator Yari as a leader whose philanthropic initiatives are well-planned, impactful, and targeted at improving lives regardless of ethnicity or political affiliation.
The Ayangburen noted that since the Kingdom was founded around 1630, appointments into its traditional council have always been based strictly on merit, adding that Senator Yari embodies the qualities associated with the title.
Oba Shotobi explained that the new Baba Isale has consistently demonstrated the true meaning of the title, “The Pillar of Support” through his numerous humanitarian interventions.
He prayed for Allah (SWT) to grant Senator Yari good health, strength, and wisdom to effectively discharge his new responsibilities.
In his remarks after receiving the honour, Senator Yari expressed profound appreciation to the Ayangburen and the people of Ikorodu Kingdom for what he described as a rare gesture of recognition.
He thanked them for finding him worthy of the title and pledged to uphold the virtues and responsibilities associated with the position.
