The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children and Persons with Special Needs in Kano State, Ambassador Amina Abdullahi Sani , has called on all 44 Local Government Chairmen to strengthen collaboration with the ministry to enhance women’s empowerment and development programmes.

Ambassador Amina made the call during an ongoing supervisory tour of Women Development Centres and Cottage Industries in Makoda, Danbatta, Ungogo, Wudil, and Warawa Local Government Areas.

According to her, the tour aims to assess the condition of existing facilities, identify operational challenges, and make recommendations for rehabilitation or the establishment of new centres where needed.

Speaking during the tour, the Director of the Women’s Department, Hajiya Bilkisu Shafi’u Jibrin, urged women to embrace economic self-reliance rather than depending solely on others for livelihood.

“Women must move from total dependency to becoming self-sufficient contributors to their families and communities. The Ministry remains committed to providing the necessary support and opportunities to make this possible,”

Responding ,Local Government Chairmen in the visited areas pledged to integrate women into governance and development processes, reaffirming their commitment to inclusive leadership and social equity.

“We are committed to ensuring that women are actively involved in governance and have access to opportunities that empower them socially and economically,” they stated.

The Acting Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Muhammad Sambo Iliyasu, commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his continued support of women’s rights and empowerment, noting that the administration has prioritized gender inclusion in its development agenda.

He added that findings from the tour would guide future policies and interventions aimed at strengthening women’s economic independence and expanding their participation in community development.
