Kaduna State House of Assembly has passed a bill establishing the Information Technology and Digital Economy Agency, aimed at strengthening the state’s digital infrastructure and economic competitiveness.
The bill, titled Kaduna State Information Technology and Digital Economy Agency and for Related Matters, 2025, was adopted after scaling through its third reading during Tuesday’s plenary.
Presiding over the session, Speaker Yusuf Dahiru Liman highlighted the importance of the new agency, noting that it will enhance the state’s economic potential and position Kaduna to benefit from global shifts toward digital technology.
He explained that the agency would drive innovation, expand digital capacity, and align the state with global developments in information technology and the digital economy.
Earlier, Chairman of the Joint Committee on Information, NGOs and Development Partners, and Judiciary, Hon. Henry Marah Zakariah, presented the committee’s report.
He said the bill underwent thorough scrutiny and was found to be a critical step toward expanding job opportunities and improving citizens’ access to digital skills.
“As you all know, time has changed and the world is changing. We must rise to the occasion and train our people to acquire the necessary knowledge to thrive in today’s digital world,” Zakariah said.
He added that journalists and other professionals stand to benefit significantly from improved digital literacy and access to modern tools.
Zakariah also stressed that the agency would support economic development and revenue generation for the state, noting that ICT centres will be established in rural areas to ensure equitable access to digital services.
“It will ease processes like JAMB registration, where people currently travel long distances to access internet facilities. With ICT centres in communities, such services and job application processes will be easier and more accessible,” he stated.
The bill was unanimously approved and formally passed into law by Speaker Yusuf Dahiru Liman.
