Over 200 residents of Sabon Gero community in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State have benefited from a free medical outreach organized by the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kaduna State Chapter.
The outreach, which featured medical screenings, tests, and the distribution of free drugs, mainly catered to women and children in the community.
Speaking during the exercise, the Chairperson of NAWOJ Kaduna, Comrade Sahur Jibrin Maidoki, said the initiative was aimed at providing essential healthcare services to underserved communities, emphasizing that “health is fundamental to life.”

She expressed satisfaction with the large turnout, noting that it reflected the positive impact of the association’s humanitarian efforts.
During the screening, a child requiring urgent medical attention was identified, and Comrade Maidoki pledged to escalate the case to relevant authorities for prompt intervention.

She also commended the dedication of NAWOJ members and executives for ensuring the success of the program and appealed to the Kaduna State Government to include the association in its health initiatives.
In her remarks, Former NAWOJ Kaduna Chairperson, Mrs. Jummai Yarima, lauded the current leadership for sustaining the association’s tradition of community service and urged them to maintain the momentum.

The Ward Head and Youth Leader of Sabon Gero expressed gratitude to NAWOJ for the intervention, calling on other organizations to emulate the gesture.
Earlier, NAWOJ Secretary, Comrade Hadiza Abdullahi Bello, appreciated the Kaduna State Primary Health Care Board, ENT Unit, Sight Savers, and iMac for their support.
The outreach included eye screening, ear check-ups, malaria and typhoid tests, deworming, and the distribution of paracetamol, vitamin supplements, and sanitary pads, among others. Drugs worth over half million were distributed free of charge.
