Commuters plying the agrarian rural road linking Kamfani Unguwar Malam Atiku to Unguwar Makada and Tankarau in Zaria Local Government Area have lamented the deplorable condition of the seven-kilometre road.
Correspondent Abdu Jibrin, who visited the area, reports that several road users expressed frustration over the hardship caused by the poor state of the road.
A commuter, Ahmed Saidu, speaking alongside Sahabi Musa Tankarau, explained that the road becomes almost impassable during the rainy season, making the movement of people and the transportation of farm produce extremely difficult.
The affected communities, known for large-scale agricultural production, noted that despite their significant contribution to the local economy, they lack the basic infrastructure needed to support their efforts.
A resident, Mallam Muhammadu Tasiu, said the area has not enjoyed the dividends of democracy since the return to civil rule, especially in the provision of essential infrastructure.
He appealed to the Zaria Local Government Council and the Kaduna State Government to provide basic social amenities and rehabilitate the road.
Residents also called on the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, to intervene and facilitate developmental projects in the area.
Investigations show that despite their population size and contribution to food production in western Zaria, many of these communities remain neglected in terms of infrastructure and social services.
