The Kaduna Maternal Accountability Mechanism (KADMAM) has called on media organizations to intensify their role in promoting awareness and accountability toward reducing maternal mortality and neonatal deaths in Kaduna State.
Speaking at a media parley with media executives in Kaduna, the Co-chair of KADMAM, Garba Mohammed, emphasized that the media remain a powerful tool in driving social change and ensuring that the voices of women and children are heard.
He said the media are KADMAM’s strongest allies in the fight against maternal and child mortality because their platforms reach every household and can influence both policy and public behaviour.
He called on media practitioners to ensure that maternal health and child survival remain top priorities on the government’s agenda.
Garba Mohammed noted that consistent reportage on maternal health issues could pressure decision-makers to improve health systems, increase budgetary allocations, and ensure that quality healthcare services are accessible to women, especially in rural communities.
He said every story, feature, and broadcast on maternal and child health has the potential to save lives and promote timely interventions that prevent needless deaths.
KADMAM reaffirmed its commitment to work closely with the media, civil society organizations, and health agencies to strengthen public accountability and promote safe motherhood practices.
The organization urged journalists to highlight the human stories behind the statistics and sustain the conversation until tangible improvements are achieved.
He added that no woman should die giving life, and no child should die from preventable causes.
