The Zamfara State Government has successfully completed ten phases of its free modified medical outreach program, providing treatment to 3,447 patients across the state.
The Special Modified Medical Outreach Program, which commenced in August 2023, was designed to deliver free medical services such as cataract surgeries, treatment of groin swellings (including hernias and hydroceles), vesico vaginal fistula (VVF) repairs, and health education to residents.
A statement issued by the Spokesperson to the Governor, Sulaiman Bala Idris, revealed that the free medical services were conducted at Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, General Hospital Gusau, Eye Centre Gusau, and Farida Hospital.
The statement added that the tenth phase of the outreach was conducted in October 2025, marking a significant milestone in the administration’s effort to improve access to quality healthcare services.
“In his commitment to addressing critical medical challenges among citizens, Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration introduced the free modified medical outreach to assist vulnerable individuals who cannot afford medical treatment,” the statement read.
According to the spokesperson, the outreach program not only provides free surgeries and medical care but also sensitizes citizens on the importance of maintaining good health and wellness, thereby contributing to improved public health outcomes across the state.
The statement further disclosed that the program has utilized tele-screening technology to extend specialist medical services to patients in rural and semi-urban areas, covering all 14 local government areas of Zamfara State.
So far, the ten phases of the outreach have successfully addressed1,659 cases of groin swellings and lumps, 1,081 cataract extractions and related eye surgeries, and 118 cases of vesico vaginal or rectal fistulas (VVF).
The Zamfara State Government’s medical outreach continues to serve as a beacon of hope for residents in need of accessible healthcare, particularly those in remote areas.
