The Zamfara State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recorded a 6 percent reduction in road crashes this year if compared to the 2024.

The Sector Commander, Aliyu Ma’aji, disclosed this during a press conference to flag off the 2025 Ember Months Campaign held in Gusau, the Zamfara State Capital.

Ember Months refers to the last four months of the year from September, October, November, and December while Federal Road Safety Corp is using the period to intensify campaign aimed at reducing road accidents during the time when people mostly travel because of festive period..

While launching this years campaign in Gusau the Zamfara State Capital, the Sector Commander, Aliyu Ma’aji said the command had recorded 46 road crashes in 2025, compared to 56 crashes in 2024, representing a 6.27 percent decrease.

He noted that, road crashes in 2024 had left 259 persons injured, attributing the casualties mainly to mixed loading, the practice of conveying goods, animals, and passengers together in trucks.

While extending the message of the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, the sector commander said the theme of this year’s campaign, “Take Responsibility for Your Safety, Stop Distracted Driving, reinforces the view that, human factors remain the major causes of road crashes.

Aliyu Ma’ani explained that, most crashes result were from drivers’ negligence, including fatigue, overloading, conveying passengers in haulage vehicles, and transporting fuel in plastic containers.

According to him, the choice for this year’s campaign was to address traffic violations and promote responsible driving behavior, which are largely responsible for previous crashes.

He further revealed that in line with the FRSC’s commitment to achieving better road safety outcomes, the Corps has introduced new strategies in addition to routine enforcement measures to ensure safer roads during the 2025 Ember Months and beyond.
