Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has inaugurated a technical committee to study and implement the new Federal Tax Reform Policy at the state level.
The move aligns with the Federal Government’s ongoing fiscal reforms aimed at expanding revenue sources, improving efficiency, and ensuring fairness in the country’s tax system.
In a statement in Dutse by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Hamisu Mohammed Gumel, the Governor said during the inauguration ceremony at the Council Chambers, Government House, that the initiative was part of efforts to strengthen Jigawa’s fiscal capacity and improve public service delivery.
He noted that the reforms, expected to take effect nationwide from January 2026, are vital to promoting inclusive growth and sustainable economic development.
The governor outlined the committee’s terms of reference, which include studying the new federal tax framework, identifying areas for domestication, and developing an implementation roadmap for Jigawa State.
He also directed the committee to propose strategic adjustments and engage key stakeholders, including the business community and civil society groups, to ensure public awareness and compliance.
Governor Namadi tasked the members to work with diligence and integrity, setting clear timelines, two weeks for an initial report, six weeks for a roadmap, and two months for the final recommendations.
He revealed that the committee would collaborate with the Fiscal Accountability and Capacity Enhancement Programme (FACE) to support technical and stakeholder engagement.
The governor urged members to approach their assignment with professionalism and patriotism, emphasizing the urgency of aligning the state with national fiscal reforms.
Chairperson of the committee and Commissioner for Finance, Professor Hannatu Sabo Mohammed, thanked the governor for the confidence reposed in them and pledged to deliver on the mandate.
She assured that the team, made up of experienced professionals, would work with diligence and transparency to produce results that reflect the governor’s vision for fiscal transformation.
