The Zamfara State Police Command says its operatives have neutralized several armed bandits during a fierce gun duel along the Gusau–Funtua Federal Highway.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, the incident occurred around Gidan Giye village in Tsafe Local Government Area when officers on routine patrol were ambushed by a large number of armed bandits.

The statement explains that the patrol team, led by ASP John Dogara, engaged the attackers in a prolonged exchange of gunfire, during which several bandits were neutralized while others escaped with suspected gunshot wounds.

Unfortunately, five police officers were reported to have paid the supreme price in the line of duty.

DSP Abubakar noted that normalcy has since been restored to the area, while additional reinforcement has been deployed to ensure the safety of commuters.
