The Jigawa State House of Assembly Committee on Health has commended both past and present administrations in the state for their foresight in establishing and maintaining the state’s medical supply company, which has now been transformed into a pharmaceutical firm.
Chairman of the Committee and Member representing Guri Constituency, Alhaji Usman Abdullahi Tura Musari, gave the commendation during an oversight visit to the firm’s headquarters in Dutse.
He explained that the firm has a vital role to play towards the supply of quality drugs as well as control the spread of expired and fake drugs to protect health condition of the people.
Alhaji Usman Musari further explained that the visit will seek to find out the challenges hindering the company from drug production and wether the article of memorandum of the company mandated drug production or otherwise.
According to him, the committee is in total support of the state executive council’s resolution mandating the company to commence drug production hence the need to rub minds on how to pave the way for drug production.
Responding, the General Manager of the Pharmaceutical Company, Pharmacist Nasiru Alhassan explained that the establishment of the firm has attracted many states to emulate Jigawa in that direction.
He said the capitalization of the company from Jigawa Medical Supply Company to its present status has doubled two fold with the mandate to procure, supply and manufacture drugs.
Pharmacist Nasiru Alhassan however said though drug production was contained in the Article of Memorandum of the company, yet there is no gazetted law backing the company to engage in drug production.
He thanked the committee for its unwavering support to the health sector in general and the firm in general.
