Residents of Sabon Gero community, off Millennium City in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, have called on Governor Uba Sani to revoke the road construction contract awarded to Think Lab Construction Company, citing incompetence and neglect.
The residents expressed disappointment that nearly one year after the contract was awarded, the company has failed to make tangible progress on the project, leaving the road in a deplorable condition.
They said the situation has caused severe hardship, particularly for women, children, and farmers who depend on the road for daily activities.
According to the community spokesperson, Malam Usman Musa, the abandoned road has turned into a muddy and waterlogged path that becomes impassable during the rainy season.
He lamented that despite repeated appeals to the contractor and relevant authorities, no meaningful work has been done.
“Our community has suffered enough. Pregnant women and school children face daily risks using this road. We are pleading with the governor to terminate the contract and hand it over to a more competent company that can deliver quality work,” Musa said.
Another resident, Hajiya Rashida Shehu, urged the government to take urgent action before the situation worsens, noting that economic activities in the area have slowed down due to the poor state of the road.
The traditional head of the community, Mai Anguwa Sunusi, also appealed to the state government to investigate the circumstances surrounding the stalled project and ensure accountability.
He emphasized that the people of Sabon Gero deserve access to basic infrastructure and should not be left behind in the state’s development agenda.
