Kano State will be sending a strong contingent of over 170 athletes, coaches, and officials to Asaba, Delta State, for the 2025 National Youth Games.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf approved that the entire team be airlifted by plane, a move described as part of his administration’s commitment to ensuring a conducive atmosphere for the state’s participants during the competition.

The 7th edition of the Games is scheduled to run from August 29 to September 6, 2025, with contingents from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) expected to compete.

Speaking on the development, the Acting Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, Ibrahim Umar Fagge, expressed appreciation to the Governor for fully sponsoring the contingent’s air travel.

He assured that Team Kano will strive to make the state proud by excelling in the championships.

The Stephen Keshi Stadium will serve as the main venue, while other events will hold across multiple locations including the stadium’s indoor hall, multipurpose facilities, Government House Squash Court, Asaba Sports Club, Anglican Girls Grammar School, and Commissioner’s Quarters.

This year’s Games will feature 37 sports, ranging from athletics, football, swimming, basketball, volleyball, and weightlifting to traditional sports such as ayo, abula, and kokowa.

Para-sports including para powerlifting, para table tennis, and deaf athletics will also be contested.

Team Delta, the reigning champions, will defend their crown against strong contenders from Kano, Lagos, Edo, Rivers, Ogun, and other states.

The 2025 National Youth Games aims to discover young Nigerian talents, foster unity among athletes, and showcase the nation’s sporting future.
