Sultan of Sokoto Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Monday the 25th August 2025 as the first day of Rabi’ ul Awwal 1447AH , Islamic calendar.
This was made known in a statement signed by the chairman Advisory Committee on religious Affairs, Sultanate Council Sokoto Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu.
He said the Committee and the National Moon sighting Committee across the country, did not receive any information confirming the sighting of the new crescent of Rabi’ ul Awwal yesterday the 23rd of August 2025 equivalent to 29th of Safar 144AH,
noting that Sunday the 30th of Safar is the end of the Islamic Month and Monday shall be 1st of Rabi’ ul Awwal accordingly.
The statement cited that the Monthly Observation of the moon clarifies the Islamic Calendar within a given year, thereby making the month of Ramadan moon sightings more acceptable to the general Muslims in the Country.
