Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum has called on Nigerians to view the party as the only viable democratic institution and alternative for restoring the country on the path of good governance and national development.

The Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, made the call while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the Forum’s 2025 7th meeting in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.

Governor Mohammed said the Forum had extensively deliberated on the state of the nation, the security situation, the erosion of democratic values, as well as preparations for the party’s forthcoming national convention.

He reaffirmed the Forum’s commitment to rescuing Nigeria from what he described as the divisive governance style of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), whose policies, he alleged have continued to inflict hardship on the people.

The Bauchi State Governor commended the resilience of PDP leaders and members in overcoming orchestrated defections, stressing that such distractions cannot erode the party’s grassroots appeal or the growing public demand for the return of affordable living and relative security under PDP-led administrations.

He urged members, supporters, and the general public to remain steadfast in upholding the vision and principles of the PDP despite what he alleged to be increasing intimidation of the opposition by the APC-led government.

“This sad situation should only be seen as the sign of desperation by a political party with no agenda, no vision, and doomed to inevitable rejection by the masses,” he stated.

Governor Mohammed further revealed that, the Forum had reaffirmed its full commitment to the resolutions of the PDP’s 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of July 2025 regarding the November 15 National Convention.

He called on party members to resist attempts by anti-party forces to derail the exercise.

On security matters, the Forum commended the Zamfara State Government’s efforts in curbing insecurity but condemned continued killings in Katsina, Plateau, Niger, Benue, and other states, urging the Federal Government to be more responsive in protecting lives and property.

The PDP Governors also condemned alleged over-militarization of the August 9 nationwide bye-elections, which he said were marred by irregularities, vote buying, and violence.

They called on Nigerians to be vigilant in protecting their votes.

The Forum expressed appreciation to the Government and people of Zamfara State for hosting the meeting and lauded Governor Dauda Lawal for his “exemplary leadership and notable achievements in infrastructure, health, education, social services, and security.”

The governors also commiserated with the Government and people of Zamfara State on the passing of the Emir of Gusau and with Oyo State over the loss of traditional rulers.

Governor Bala Mohammed concluded by expressing the Forum’s gratitude to PDP members and supporters nationwide for their steadfast loyalty in the face of what he described as intimidation and anti-democratic actions by the APC-led Federal Government during the recent bye-election.
