The Nigeria Police Force has deployed Assistant Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Hussaini Gumel, alongside the Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command, Mohammed Rabiu, and a large number of personnel to ensure peace and order during the rerun election in Kaura Namoda South Constituency this Thursday.
The security deployment comprises personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Correctional Service, Federal Fire Service, and other sister agencies.
Addressing the troops at the Zamfara Police Command Headquarters, AIG Gumel assured that security agencies would work in synergy to guarantee the safety of voters, INEC staff, and election materials.
Mohammed Gumel stressed that police officers would carry out their duties professionally.
The AIG cautioned personnel against engaging in unwholesome acts, urging them to remain impartial and committed to the success of the exercise.
He specifically warned officers not to assist voters in thumb-printing ballot papers, emphasizing that such conduct is not part of their responsibility.
Gumel emphasized that only accredited party agents are permitted at the polling units, revealing that apart from them, no party official would be allowed within the polling units and collation centres.
On his part, Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Rabiu warned that vote buying and political thuggery would not be tolerated.
He directed officers to arrest anyone found with weapons at polling units.
The police also reminded the general public to comply with the restriction of movement in the affected areas for the smooth conduct of the exercise.
He further appealed to journalists to report the rerun election fairly and adequately.
