The Kaduna Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has applauded its members, leaders, and supporters for the success of the 2025 NAWOJ Hangout, describing the event as both “memorable and historic.”
The hangout, held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Wonder Kitchen, Kaduna, brought together women journalists, senior colleagues, and friends of the association for an afternoon of laughter, food, mentorship, and bonding.
In a joint statement, NAWOJ Kaduna Chairperson, Comrade Sahura Jibrin Maidoki, and Secretary, Hadiza Bello Abdullahi, commended the unity and commitment of members who contributed food, drinks, time, and energy to ensure the gathering’s success.

The event drew several dignitaries, including the NAWOJ Vice Chairperson Zone A (represented by the Northwest Zonal Secretary, Daharatu Ahmed Aliyu), Executive Director of KSMC and former NAWOJ Chairperson, Farida Abubakar, former NAWOJ Chairperson, Jummai Yarima and former NUJ Vice Chairman, Jamila Garba Tumba.
Others include, SSA on Special Duties to the National Chairperson, Maureen Sheyin, immediate past NAWOJ Chairperson and current NUJ Kaduna Treasurer, Fatima Aliyu, Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Maryam Suka, Mrs. Asabe Ndoma, and other past leaders of both NUJ and NAWOJ.
According to the leadership, their presence, encouragement, and “motherly guidance” added immense value and inspiration to the gathering.

A major highlight of the day was the celebration of August-born members, who were honored with songs, cheers, and warm wishes from colleagues, turning the event into a double celebration of sisterhood and birthdays.

The association also commended the Director of the Center for Mentorship and Career Development KASU, Dr. Bashariyya Baba, for delivering an inspiring mentoring session—the first of its kind at a NAWOJ hangout.
While recognizing members who could not attend due to other commitments, the association assured them that they remain an integral part of the NAWOJ family.
“Every single member—whether through presence, contribution, or support—played a role in making this hangout a celebration of sisterhood, bonding, and professional growth,” the statement read.

The Kaduna NAWOJ leadership reaffirmed its commitment to promoting unity among women journalists while providing more platforms for mentorship, professional development, and social engagement.
