The Zamfara State Police Command has organised a two-day sensitization programme on Community Policing and Campus Safety for students of tertiary institutions in Talata Mafara Local Government Area.

The event, which took place from the 30th to 31st of July 2025, was aimed at promoting security awareness among newly admitted and returning students.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said the programme brought together stakeholders, including traditional rulers, security agencies, academic leaders, and students, to foster collaboration and address key security challenges affecting campus communities.

Declaring the event open, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Salisu Bello Fargo, who represented the Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, said the sensitization aligns with the Inspector General of Police’s vision of promoting community-oriented policing.

CP Ibrahim Maikaba reiterated the Command’s commitment to engaging communities, particularly youths and students, in proactive initiatives that promote peace, security, and development across the state.

He emphasized the need for dialogue and trust between the police and the public to enhance peace and security.

The Emir of Mafara, Dr. Bello Muhammad Barmo, who attended the event, stressed the importance of peace, unity, and youth involvement in community development.

Representing the Vice Chancellor of Zamfara State University, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor B.B. Kasim, urged students to cooperate with security agencies to ensure a safe academic environment.

Also speaking, the Rector of Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Dr. Suraj Abdullahi, reaffirmed the institution’s readiness to support ongoing efforts in addressing security issues through regular sensitization and active student engagement.

Topics covered during the programme included campus safety, cultism, drug abuse, theft, and the principles of community policing.

Facilitators were drawn from the Nigeria Police Force and academic institutions across the state.
