The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has urged security agencies, traditional and youth leaders to take proactive measures in discouraging the public from constructing buildings beneath high-tension transmission lines and from vandalizing power infrastructure.

The General Manager of TCN, Kaduna Region, Engr. Nasir Mansur Fada, made the call during a stakeholder engagement meeting held at the company’s regional headquarters in Mando, Kaduna.

The event, which brought together traditional leaders, security agencies, and civil society organizations, was in line with the directive of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and TCN’s broader commitment to curbing encroachment and protecting national power assets.

The General Manager of TCN, Kaduna Region, Engr. Nasir Mansur Fada, emphasized the critical role of community collaboration in achieving stable electricity supply.

He revealed that new transformers have been installed at multiple locations, alongside ongoing expansion and upgrade projects across the country.

However, he stressed that these initiatives can only succeed if host communities actively support efforts to protect power infrastructure.

In a paper presentation titled the impact of vandalism on national power supply, the Manager of System Lines, Kaduna Sub-Region, Engr. Simon Innocent, explained that acts of sabotage not only affect electricity availability but also hinder the nation’s socioeconomic development.

Also speaking at the event, the Deputy Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Isah Audu, explained that intelligence and information-sharing remain vital tools in tackling vandalism everywhere in the world.

The sensitization programme concluded with an interactive session, where participants pledged their commitment to supporting TCN’s efforts and also expressed readiness to work with the company to ensure safer communities and with more stable power supply.
