Residents of the National Eye Centre Mahuta Layout in Kaduna State have endorsed Governor Uba Sani for a second term, following the resolution of a long-standing land dispute that had resulted in the demolition of dozens of homes under the previous administration.
The endorsement comes after the Kaduna State Government, through the Kaduna State Geographic Information Services (KADGIS), issued over 300 Certificates of Occupancy to residents whose properties were affected by the demolitions carried out during the tenure of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
Speaking on behalf of the affected residents, retired Colonel Haruna Idris Zaria commended Governor Sani for what he described as a compassionate and people-centered approach to governance.
He said the governor’s swift and structured intervention not only brought an end to years of uncertainty but also restored the residents’ confidence in government.
“We suffered in silence for years, not knowing whether our homes would ever be safe. Governor Uba Sani gave us legal backing and peace of mind, His actions show a leader who listens and acts with empathy,” said Zaria.
Residents said the issuance of land titles has significantly reduced tensions within the Mahuta community, providing long-awaited legal clarity and assurance of property ownership.
They also credited Governor Sani with halting any further demolitions, allowing families to live without the fear of displacement.
“This is more than a legal victory it is a humanitarian one,” said another resident. “The governor has returned dignity and stability to our lives.”
Governor Sani’s handling of the Mahuta Layout crisis has been widely praised as a model for resolving land disputes in urban areas.
The initiative has been cited as evidence of his administration’s commitment to fairness, inclusive governance, and protecting the rights of ordinary citizens.
Political observers note that this grassroots support could bolster Governor Sani’s political standing ahead of the next election cycle, particularly given the sensitivity of land ownership issues in urban Kaduna.
For the residents of Mahuta, however, their endorsement is rooted in gratitude rather than politics.
“He earned our trust by doing what others wouldn’t,” said Colonel Zaria. “We believe he deserves a second term to continue the good work ” the observers noted.
