Elders across the country have been urged to prevail upon the Federal Government to settle outstanding debts owed to retired workers, in the interest of preserving the integrity of the public service.

Retired Chief Security Officer of the NTA, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar, made the appeal in response to the alleged failure of relevant agencies to pay the arrears, despite budgetary provisions having been made.

Alhaji Abdullahi Umar also called on traditional rulers and religious leaders to support the efforts of senior citizens in securing their entitlements, which have been promised over the years but delayed by harsh economic policies.

He expressed hope that the National Assembly, which appropriated the funds particularly the ‘COVID-19’ palliatives would act decisively to ensure all benefits were paid without further delay.

Alhaji Abdullahi Umar was concerned over reports that Nigeria was among ten countries rated with poor labour policies which affects its image and stressed the need for reversal to restore past glory left by the founding fathers.
