The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Jigawa State Council, has joined the global community in commemorating World Children’s Day 2025, emphasizing the urgent need to protect children from abuse, exploitation, and neglect.
In a statement, by the Council’s Secretary, Aisha Ahmed, the union expressed deep concern over the increasing vulnerability of children in today’s society.
It called on parents, guardians, and community members to prioritize child safety by closely monitoring their activities and movements.
The NUJ condemned the culture of silence surrounding child abuse, urging families not to conceal such cases due to shame or fear. The Council emphasized that silence only empowers perpetrators and puts more children at risk.
It called on parents to report abuse promptly to the relevant authorities and push for justice, noting that community engagement and accountability are crucial in the fight against child exploitation.
The NUJ reaffirmed its commitment to using the media as a tool to amplify children’s voices, raise awareness about their rights, and support policies that ensure their protection and development.
The Council called on all stakeholders including government bodies, civil society, and religious leaders to work collectively to create a safe and nurturing environment for every child in Jigawa and across Nigeria.
