First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has launched the distribution of farming tools and cash to women in Zamfara State to promote garden farming and enhance household food security.
Speaking at the official launching of the initiative in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, Senator Tinubu described the initiative as a symbol of resilience, food security, and economic empowerment.
Represented by the wife of the Zamfara State Governor, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal said the empowerment initiative was part of the Renewed Hope Initiative, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, under the Every Home a Garden programme.

According to her, the initiative was not just about planting crops, it’s about planting hope, building resilience, and ensuring food security for all.
She urged women across Zamfara State to embrace the programme, learn from it, and pass on the knowledge to their daughters and sisters.

“This reminds us that the fight against hunger and poverty can start in our own backyards. By cultivating small gardens at home, we can feed our families, support our communities, and generate income from surplus produce,”
Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal expressed heartfelt appreciation to Senator Oluremi Tinubu for launching what she described as a “visionary programme.”
She also thanked her husband, Governor Dauda Lawal, for his unwavering support and commitment for the initiatives that improve the welfare of citizens.
“His leadership has created an enabling environment for programmes like this to thrive,” she noted.
The Wife of the Governor also extended her appreciation to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, and the Zamfara State Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, for their technical support and collaboration.
“Together, let us grow, nurture, and feed our people one home, one garden at a time,”
Out of the 60 beneficiaries, 35 women received 200,000 cash to establish backyard gardens, while 25 women with existing gardens received a full empowerment package comprising a wheelbarrow, watering can, fertilizer, hoe, cutlass, to boost productivity and sustainability.
Some of the beneficiaries, commended the First Lady for the initiative and pledged to use it judiciously to boost farming.
