The Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Imam Dahiru, has announced plans to sponsor 1,000 indigent students from Makera Constituency for the 2025 National Examination Council (NECO) examinations.

Demonstrating his ongoing dedication to education, the Speaker has decided to give another opportunity to 125 students from his 2024 NECO scholarship program who did not pass Mathematics and/or English Language.

He will sponsor them again to retake these essential subjects, ensuring they have a fair chance to succeed academically.

Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Nuhu Danladi, said the scholarship initiative aims to support underprivileged students in achieving academic success and excellence.

Other members of the committee include the Chief of Staff to the Speaker, Hon. Bashir Adamu Nababa; Vice Chairman of Kaduna South Local Government, Hon. Nehemiah Baba Karik; Mallam Sani Ladan; Mallam Jibril Kakuri; Mallam Aminu Sani Yakubu; Hon. Tasiu Haruna; and Mallam Abbas Yusuf.

In his part, Chief of Staff to the Speaker, Bashir Adamu Nababa, said that as part of their efforts, the committee visited several participating schools to engage with administrators and begin the payment process for the upcoming exams.

He explained that the visit marks a significant step in ensuring that beneficiaries were adequately prepared and registered.

According to a member of the Committee and former Director of the Educational Resource Centre, Malam Abbas Yusuf, the Speaker’s initiative is widely seen as a meaningful investment in the future of Makera’s youth and a strategic effort to improve educational standards in the constituency.

He noted that the programme was a testament to the Speaker’s unwavering commitment to educational empowerment. “It’s about giving our students the tools they need to succeed.” he added.

The scholarship program is expected to ease the financial burden on parents and open new opportunities for students striving to improve their academic performance.
