Governor Umar Dikko Radda of Katsina State has visited the House of Representatives Chamber, where he witnessed the defection of three House members from his state from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defected members are Abdullahi Balarabe Dabai, member representing Bakori Danja Federal Constituency; Aliyu Iliyasu Abubakar, representing Batasari, Safana and Dan-Musa Federal Constituency; and Salisu Yusuf Majigiri, representing Mashi, Dutsi Federal Constituency of Katsina State.

In their letters of defection, read out by the Speaker, House of Representatives, Dr Tajudeen Abbas, the defected lawmakers cited unresolved disputes and crises in the PDP as one of the reasons for their move.

In recent months, Nigeria has again been witnessing a wave of political defections, particularly from the PDP to the ruling APC.

The defections have sparked renewed debates about the nature of party loyalty, ideological consistency, and the health of Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

On Tuesday, the oldest House of Representatives member, Mutu Nickolas, and five other members from Delta State defected from the PDP to the APC.

On the same day, the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, and two other members also defected to the APC from the PDP.

Others who defected include councillors from 17 local governments, former deputy speaker, Roland Asoro; former House Majority Leader, Nosa Nosayaba, and former PDP State Secretary, Gabriel Oloruntoba, among others.

The Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, also defected from the PDP to the APC. His predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, also joined the APC from the PDP.
