In a bid to supporting Unity and Children Education in the army barracks, the 8 Division, Nigerian Army, Sokoto has hosted a spelling bee competition among Barracks School children at the division headquarters in Sokoto state.
In his remarks, the General Officer Commanding the Division Major General Ibikunle Ajose said the event was more than just an academic excellence stressing that it was aimed at transcending the spirit of harmony, religious and ethnic boundaries between Muslims and Christians students, boys and girls across barracks community.
He said NA is one family devoid of ethnic and religious differences citing that it is the spirit of the Nigerian Army which guarantees success at the battle fields.
Radio Nigeria in Sokoto report that the event was part of the Silver Jubilee celebration of Reverend Father and Army Chaplain, Lt. Col. Patrick Odira Orji, marking his twenty five years of dedicated priesthood.
Major General Ajose praised Reverend Father Orji for sponsoring and organising the competition and commended the participants and their families, describing the students’ performances as inspiring.
The GOC donated one hundred thousand naira cash prize, complete school uniform, schoolbag, wristwatch, three pairs of suits and awarded one year of school fees to the overall winner of the competition, John Terse Orfega.
The second position goes to Jennifer Ashezi Sunday who received two terms of school fees, full school kits, and ₦50,000 cash.
In a vote of thanks, Reverend Father Orji expressed heartfelt gratitude and pride in the students achievements and the unity displayed.
