The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) says is undertaking a transformation to reclaim public trust, which would reposition the agency as a modern, tech-driven logistics and e-commerce player on the national stage.
At a high-level management retreat in Abuja, NIPOST’s Board Chairman, Isaac Kekemeke acknowledged the agency’s historical shortcomings but emphasized a fresh determination to restore credibility.
Rejecting funding constraints as an excuse for stagnation, Kekemeke stressed that commitment, not capital, would drive the agency’s revival.
“We know that over time we have disappointed Nigeria and Nigerians, but we are going to come up, after now, to tell Nigerians that we are ready.
“We are set to redirect the efforts and put NIPOST on the path of progress. The trust that we have lost will be restored by the way and manner we do things from now on.”,” Kekemeke said.
The Postmaster General, Tola Odeyemi, who underscored technology and partnerships as key to redefining NIPOST’s value in a rapidly digitizing economy, revealed that NIPOST has joined the Universal Postal Union’s (UPU) Postal Prosperity Zoom project, a global initiative designed to help national postal operators recover market share in the booming e-commerce sector.
Through this project, NIPOST aims to reclaim handling of e-commerce logistics — including customs clearance, warehousing, and reverse logistics- positioning itself as Nigeria’s go-to last-mile delivery network.
“We’ve been working hard to change the face of NIPOST and the perception of NIPOST,” Odeyemi said. “With the onboarding of Chief Kekemeke as Chairman of the Governing Board, we’ll see accelerated improvement.”
Odeyemi highlighted that the first e-commerce shipment on NIPOST’s new platform was completed just last week, signaling the start of a more agile and responsive era.
