A non-governmental organization, the Kauru Emirate Consultative Initiative (KECI), has firmly distanced itself from the ongoing agitation to include Kauru Emirate in the proposed Gurara State, carved out of the present Kaduna State.
This was disclosed in a press statement signed by the Chairman of the Initiative, Malam Isah Mukhtar, and issued to journalists in Zaria.
According to Malam Mukhtar, the claim by some groups particularly from Southern Kaduna, that the Kauru Emirate desires to be part of Gurara State is baseless and misleading.
“The people of Kauru Emirate are not part of this agitation. We are content and proud to remain within Kaduna State, especially due to our deep-rooted historical, cultural, and social ties with the Zazzau Emirate,” he emphasized.
He further explained that the Kauru Emirate shares a common heritage with the people of Zazzau, including values, traditions, and norms that have evolved over centuries of peaceful coexistence.
Highlighting the socio-economic and historical alignment, Malam Mukhtar noted:
“From intermarriages to trade routes, festivals to traditional leadership structures, our communities are interwoven with those in Zazzau. Attempting to shift our identity to another political formation is not only unjustified but also a disservice to our people.”
He reiterated that the Kauru Emirate has “categorically chosen” to remain within the newly proposed configuration of Kaduna State, rejecting any moves to align it with Gurara State.
The KECI Chairman, therefore, called on agitators, particularly from Southern Kaduna, to cease all efforts to forcibly include Kauru Emirate in the Gurara State blueprint, urging respect for the will and identity of the emirate’s people.
