The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has reiterated its commitment to ensuring consumer rights and obligations while working towards establishing cost-reflective industry tariffs.
Speaking on behalf of the commission at a three-day Customer Complaints Resolution Meeting, NERC’s Public Relations Officer, Hajiya Nusrat Wali, said the forum aimed to engage with Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos), consumers, and other stakeholders to find lasting solutions for improved service delivery.
She explained that the meeting would thoroughly address unresolved customer complaints that have not been adequately handled by the electricity distribution companies.
According to her, NERC, an independent body responsible for the technical and economic regulation of the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry, has recorded significant achievements, including capacity expansion and network growth through the issuance of licenses for electricity generation, transmission, distribution, and trading, among others.

In her opening remarks, the Commissioner for Consumer Affairs, Hajiya Aisha Mahmud, said the commission was committed to enforcing market rules and a multi-year tariff order that ensures an attractive and stable electricity market in Nigeria.
She added that the commission would continue to maintained stakeholder engagement processes in a bid to enhancing transparency, fairness and accountability.
