The Joint Committee of the National Assembly on Police Affairs has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting police operations to ensure the security of lives and property across the country.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Senator Abdulhamid Malam Madori, gave this assurance during his keynote address at the budget defense session for the Ministry of Police Affairs and its agencies in Abuja.

Senator Abdulhamid stated that the budget defense exercise was a vital step in the democratic process, ensuring public funds were judiciously allocated to various government agencies to enhance their effectiveness.

He explained that the committee was determined to look in to the provisions and ensure proper allocation of funds for the Nigerian police to discharge its mandate efficiently to improve the security architecture of the country.

Senator Abdulhamid said this session reflects their collective dedication to improving national security and strengthening the capacity of these critical institutions.

He added that Budget defense was a  democratic process promoting transparency, accountability, and collaboration.

“Our goal is to ensure that resources are allocated effectively to address pressing security challenges, enhance capacity building, and support institutional reforms.”

Senator Abdulhamid urged members to approach the exercise with objectivity and patriotism, ensuring that every allocation is justified and directed toward improving security and operational efficiency.

To the esteemed agencies, he encouraged transparency in presenting their plans and patience in responding to inquiries, as both parties work together for the common good of the nation.

The lawmaker appealed  to remain focused on prioritizing strategies that would modernize and transform policing in Nigeria to meet the expectations of our citizens.

Similarly, the Chairman of the House Committee on Police Affairs, Abubakar Makki Ellema, commended the Ministry and its agencies for their detailed presentations.

He assured that the committee, on its part, will take the necessary steps to ensure that the relevant budget heads and sub-heads receive adequate funding, while considering the fiscal constraints and financial challenges facing the government.

He emphasized the importance of balancing these limitations with the critical task of ensuring the security of lives and property for all Nigerians.

Makki further stated, “Security, as you know, is everyone’s business. We acknowledge your sacrifices and the challenges you face, and we are committed to ensuring that our Police Force and all supporting institutions are adequately funded to guarantee their effective functionality.”

He assured that the committee would work tirelessly to agree on a practical budget within the limited time available.

Hon Makki reaffirmed the committee’s unwavering commitment to supporting the protection of lives and property for all Nigerians.
