Niger State Unit Area of the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria MSSN, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately suspend the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, over suit case to halt the mass wedding of 100 girls by Speaker of the state House of Assembly.
MSSN Ameer in the state, Mahmud Lawal Murshid who made the call while addressing Newsmen in Minna, said the action by the minister has shown clearly that she is incompetent to discharge her responsibility.
Mahmud Lawal Murshid reminded the Minister that Islam respect women, stressing that it has also reserved the rights of women for over one thousand four hundred years ago and wondered why she has gone this far.
The Muslim Society however condemned in strong terms the court action against Speaker of Niger state House of Assembly, Barrister Abdulmalik Sarkindaji stressing that Islam accorded much respect to marriage institution, and applauded him for sponsoring the mass wedding of one hundred women in Mariga Local Government Area of the State
The MSSN while asking were was the Minister when the fathers of the women and girl’s were kidnapped and killed by bandits, and however maintained that the consent the girls were sought which is one of the cardinal pillar of marriage in Islam and that they have attain the age of eighteen and above.
Mahmud Lawal Murshid who assured the Speaker of the support of Nigerlites would also wants him to sustain the tempo of assisting those in need
He called on Niger state government National and state Assemblies, traditional and religious leaders as well as other stakeholders to also lend their voices to this important call.
