The National Assembly has reaffirmed its commitment to digitalising its Information Department with an ultra-modern newsroom for real-time news monitoring, breaking news, and dissemination.
The Clerk of the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, made the commitment while commissioning the 22-rapporteur-capacity ultra-modern newsroom on Tuesday.
Barrister Kamoru Ogunlana said the commissioning was not just the unveiling of a facility, but a reaffirmation of the National Assembly’s commitment to institutional growth, efficiency, and excellence.
He explained that the newsroom is a strategic investment designed to strengthen information management, improve documentation of legislative activities, and enhance public engagement.
“In an era where communication defines credibility, this facility positions the National Assembly to project its work with professionalism and transparency.”
He added that the digitalised studio (newsroom) is not just an infrastructure project, but part of a broader commitment to building capacity and promoting excellence.
According to him, the modern-day infrastructure being established in the National Assembly is gradually transforming it from a centre of pride and national significance into a place that reflects the dignity and importance of democratic governance globally.
The Clerk further argued that facilities such as the chapel, mosque, library, hospital, printing press, and now the modern newsroom are part of the gradual process of transforming the National Assembly complex into more than just a legislative hub.
“We are shaping it into a symbol of institutional strength and a destination of interest, a place that reflects the dignity and importance of democratic governance.”
He, however, urged the management staff to ensure proper maintenance of the various facilities provided, saying that preserving our assets is equally preserving our progress and development.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Secretary of the Research and Information Directorate, Dr. Barde Umoru, said the ultra-modern newsroom was conceived and established to serve as a strategic communication hub designed to enhance transparency, accountability, and public engagement in the democratic process.
“This newsroom will play critical roles in advancing the communication mandate of the legislature, including ensuring real-time monitoring of proceedings and strategic communication by closely tracking debates, motions, resolutions, and oversight engagements in both chambers.”
