Sports has  been identified as a critical aspect in moulding cadets for future leadership roles in the Nigerian Armed forces.

Kaduna State Commissioner for Sports development, Professor Benjamin Kumai Gugong stated this during the closing ceremony of the annual cadets brigade inter-battalion sports week held at the NDA sports complex.

Professor Benjamin Kumai Gugong explained that sports is an essential requirement for the development of military personnel because it assist in developing their competitive spirit, as well as physical and mental wellbeing.

He noted that sports competition would also assist the cadets in their career progression in the armed forces.

The Commissioner expressed the readiness of the State Government towards partnering institutions on sports development in Kaduna State.

Professor Gugong disclosed that the State Government is set to organise an inter-tertiary institution competition as part of its policy thrust towards promoting sporting activities in Kaduna State.

Earlier in his welcome address, Commandant of the NDA, Major General John Ochai said the sporting competition was akin to military training and operations, where lessons in victory and defeat are learnt to enhance operational efficiency.

He urged winners to be magnanimous in victory, while encouraging those who lost to prepare adequately so as to achieve success in future competitions.

The cadets brigade inter-battalion sports week is an annual event designed to build the physical endurance of cadets, develop their leadership capabilities, while engendering sportsmanship.

Participants were drawn from the four regular cadet battalions who participated in ball games, combat sports and racket games.
