Jigawa AFAN Partners Fed Institutions To Enhance Agriculture

The Jigawa State Chapter of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture at Federal University Dutse and the Soil Research Institute in Kaduna, have organized a two-day seminar in Dutse for selected farmers from various local government branches of the association on soil testing to boost production.

Briefing the participants on the aims and objectives of the seminar, Professor Uzaifatu Karfi of the Department of Agriculture FUD, said soil test was vital as it would determine the fertility and variety of crops to be planted on farmlands to give yields for bumper harvest.

According to him, more than ninety percent of the food and cash crops grown come from the soil.

He Therefore, said the Agricultural Department of the University had donated soil testing kits to AFAN and practically demonstrated to the participants how to use them to test the fertility of their farmlands before planting crops.

In his speech, the Jigawa State Chairman of AFAN Engineer Auwalu Garba Ibrahim, explained that the participants of the Seminar would organised step down training on the new development to farmers in their respective areas.

He appreciated the support and understanding of the Federal University Dutse to Jigawa state AFAN with the introduction of the new innovation to boost food production in the state.

Participants of the Seminar expressed their gratitude to both the University and AFAN for organising the two day seminar which they gained a lot on new farming techniques.
